State of Illinois
Illinois is a state in the Midwestern and Great Lakes regions of the United States. French explorers Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet explored the Illinois River in 1673, then the region was known as Illinois Country and was part of New France. Date of admission to the Union on December 3, 1818 (21st).
